Course description:
This course is designed to give students a thorough understanding of the range of factors that can influence our mental health and the potential effects they can have. It will equip students with the practical skills needed to build their own resilience and develop strategies and techniques to support themselves.It will also helo prepare students for undergraduate study and for making a difference within the broader health and social care sector.
Course units:
Fundamentals of mental health and the individual (exam)
Mental health, wellbeing and society (exam)
Supporting and promoting mental health and wellbeing in organisations (coursework)
Community-based support for mental health and wellbeing (coursework)
One other optional units:
Supporting mental health and wellbeing with physical activity (coursework) OR
Supporting mental health and wellbeing with outdoor and creative activities (coursework)
Assessment:
This course contains five units. Two are exam units with three being coursework based. The exam and coursework units will be split across years 12 and 13.
What can I do with this qualification?
This qualification can be combined with other A levels or vocational courses. It will particularly complement Psychology, Sociology, Health and Social Care, Criminology, Medical Science and Business. The skills and knowledge you will gain will be valuable in many career paths in the future. Some examples of these are: Mental Health and Wellbeing, Public Health, Occupational Therapy, Counselling or Therapy, Creative and Therapeutic Arts. Social Work, Healthcare, Psychiatry, Psychology. Mental Health Nursing and Social Prescribing.
