Course description

Law touches every part of our lives, influencing what we do and how we do it. This course gives you a chance to explore how laws are made, what they mean, and how they affect us every day.

Imagine discussing real news stories and events in class to understand how they relate to what you’re learning. And it’s not just about rules and cases – we’ll also talk about big questions like what makes a law fair and how it connects to what’s right or wrong. Think of it as training your brain to solve problems, not just for class, but for life! Plus, studying law pairs well with any other subject you’re interested in.

So, if you’re curious about the world and want to understand how it works, this course is for you!

Course units

In the first year, you’ll get to know the courts, learn how laws are created, and explore basic ideas like who’s responsible when something goes wrong (like in Criminal Law and Tort).

Then, in the second year, dive deeper into Contract Law, where you’ll learn about making agreements and what happens if they’re broken. You’ll also get to study more about crimes like murder and theft, as well as other legal issues like negligence and property disputes.

There is no coursework and you do not have the choice as to which questions to answer, which requires you to learn all content of the course (so please do look at the further breakdown for what you study for A Level Law guide, as there is a lot of content to learn).

This course helps students to make an informed choice about whether a career in law is the right option for them.
A Level Law is viewed by universities as a fully academic subject producing high quality candidates. A significant number of students on this course go onto study Law at university and later use the skills developed to get training contracts, mini pupillages or Legal apprenticeships to train to become a qualified legal professional.
