Sackville School is a large secondary school in East Grinstead with nearly 1700 students on roll. We have a wide range of subjects and a large staff body to support this work. Staff are always encouraged to be creative and innovative, to try new things and to do what is best for the education of the children and students we serve. We have a culture of sharing best practice and finding ways to implement ideas that work best for you in your role.
Through the use of the GLF Teaching School Hub, SSAT, PIXL and various National Professional Qualifications we offer bespoke learning and development programmes, courses and qualifications to teachers and support staff at every stage of their career. We are also part of the MId-Sussex Federation which is a partnership between Sackville, Imberhorne, Downlands and Oathall. This helps us support staff even further by creating links across the four schools for everyone’s benefit.
On top of this, we have a passion in school for developing each other and our extensive CPD program as a school and in subject areas is designed to do just that. No matter what stage you are in your career, or what job you do, we will support and develop your skills. We have a highly experienced team of leaders, mentors, subject specialists, and function leads all committed to supporting your career and developing your skills.
You will also find Sackville to be a unique community where we truly believe ‘Together We Achieve’. Our community system is designed to support all students and staff to have a real sense of belonging in our community. We would recommend you reading more about the unique ways in which these work to support everyone.

Sackville School is committed to developing outstanding future teachers and we play a very active role in Initial Teacher Education (ITE). We work closely in partnership within our own Mid Sussex Federation of schools, Sussex and Brighton universities, BOSCO and GLF to provide high quality training placements for those seeking a career in teaching. We’re looking for people who have (or will have) a degree, have a passion for teaching and want to inspire young people to fulfil their potential.
Our experience in teacher training, our very strong exam results and Ofsted report enables us to support placement across a wide range of subjects leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). There are three main routes to be considered:
A University led PGCE route leading to QTS with Sackville leading one of your school placements. Applications are made to the University.
A school-based route through our partners at GLF. All training is led by GLF partner schools leading to QTS with Sackville leading one of your school placements. This route does not award a PGCE. Applications are made to GLF.
The Schools Choice route leading to QTS. The majority of your placement is at Sackville with input from Universities and partner schools dependent on course. Applications are made to BOSCO.
This can all be a little confusing so we urge you to come in and talk with us or arrange a virtual meeting. We are also very happy to arrange a school visit for you and to organise some lesson observations to help you make the right decision. Please contact Holly Whitmore, Professional Tutor by email at hwhitmore@sackvilleschool.org.uk if you would like to discuss any of these further.
We look forward to hearing from you and hope you are inspired to join us in the best profession in the world.
